What started as an AI experiment turned into something far more meaningful: a growing world of lyrical, nature-inspired stories for children.

After the unexpected joy of creating Cumu the Little Cloud—a soft-spoken cloud who learns to rain with care—I found myself drawn into another idea:
What if the next story followed the sun?

That’s how Raya was born.

She began as a spark—quite literally.
A tiny ray of sunlight, curious and eager to help.
At first, the story grew in the same style as Cumu’s: soft, poetic rhymes paired with cartoon-like illustrations. But something shifted. I found myself drawn to a slightly different image style—one that felt a bit more timeless, even slightly storybook-classic.

It became important to me that her appearance strike a balance: partly abstract, like a being of pure light, yet still with soft, human-like (or fairy-like) features.

A bright, cartoon-style sun with large sparkling eyes and rosy cheeks smiles warmly above a meadow of colorful flowers and a winding river. Puffy clouds frame her glowing face as rays shine through the sky.
Raya in her first imagined form—bright, cartoonish, and full of charm, glowing with curiosity above a flowery field.
A radiant, fairy-like sun spirit with soft, baby-like features floats in a dreamy dawn sky. Her glowing form is surrounded by golden and pink clouds as she smiles with wide-eyed curiosity, newly born into the sky.
The same moment reimagined in Raya’s final form—ethereal, luminous, and storybook-like, with light flowing through her.

One of my favorite aspects of creating Raya the Little Sun was letting her grow—not just in spirit, but visually. From her baby-like glow to the tender worry of a child, and finally the calm confidence of someone older.
Her journey toward balance is also a journey of growing up.

At one point, I wondered if this story, like Cumu’s, should become a book—maybe a printed one or a gentle e-book. But in the end, I chose to make it freely available on my website, so anyone curious can simply… read.

Because sometimes, the right thing to do with a little bit of light—
is just to let it shine.
